Carlson Vitamin D3 provides 5,000 IU (125 mcg) of vitamin D3 as cholecalciferol in a single soft gel. Vitamin D3 promotes strong bones, supports immune system health, helps regulate calcium and phosphorus metabolism, and promotes heart health. Our body produces vitamin D3 following sun exposure, which is why it's often called the "sunshine vitamin," but changing seasons, heavy clothing, and sunscreen can make it difficult to get enough sun. And although it's possible to get vitamin D3 through our diet, few food sources contain enough vitamin D3 for us to reach the recommended daily intake. For those who have difficulty getting their vitamin D3, a supplement may be a great option.

Current vitamin D3 Dietary Reference Intakes by the Institute of Medicine range from 200 to 600 IU per day, depending on age. The U.S. Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) for infants and children is 400 IU.
